New Node Leaders at the University of Oslo

Prof. Eivind Valen and Dr Anthony Mathelier are now taking over as leaders of the ELIXIR node at the University of Oslo, succeeding Prof. Rein Aasland. Eivind Valen is a professor at the Department of Biosciences (IBV), UiO, where he leads a research group focused on RNA biology and translational regulation. His group uses and develops computational and molecular approaches such as ribosome profiling, nanopore sequencing, and CRISPR. Anthony Mathelier is Associate Director and Group Leader of the Computational Biology & Gene Regulation group at the Norwegian Centre for Molecular Biosciences and Medicine (NCMBM) at the University of Oslo. Among other projects on gene expression regulation, Mathelier’s team leads JASPAR, the widely used open database for transcription factor binding profiles, which was recently recognised as an ELIXIR Core Data Resource. Together, Valen and Mathelier will lead the node’s continued work to provide tools, infrastructure, and expertise for life science research in Norway. ELIXIR Norway thanks Rein Aasland for his contributions as node leader at UiO, and wishes Valen and Mathelier the best in their new roles.
